Volunteer to be a character in the upcoming poverty simulation. We invite you to join us on Friday, March 31st for an interactive workshop, the Cost of Poverty Experience Simulation (COPES), sponsored by the City of Lynnwood, United Way of Snohomish County, and Leadership Snohomish County. Participants will be divided into small "family" teams and experience challenges faced by people in situational or generational poverty. Past participants have reported gaining a deeper understanding of the complexity of poverty and have gone on to create changes in their own agencies, schools, and public policy to address needs and opportunities. A facilitated debrief leads to concrete next steps for learning, volunteering, giving and advocating for change. Volunteers are need to play character roles that include being an employer, a pawn shop owner, the gas station and more. Volunteers are required to attend a 30 minute phone conference orientation and participate for the entire duration of the event.
